Karkadé, also known as Hibiscus tea, is a drink that comes from the dried petals of scarlet flowers, fleshy and aromatic, from the Hibiscus sabdariffa plant. Consumption of Karkadè in particular it spread in Egypt, for its astringent properties, which help to combat dehydration and thirst. In the past the Karkadè was used as a substitute for tea and was drunk cold and sweetened with the addition of freshly squeezed lemon juice. In European countries, however, it is often used as a basic ingredient in herbal tea blends. Karkadè infusion has many nutritional properties: stimulates metabolism, helps the body to burn excess fat, helps digestion, diuretic support, and helps the body to reduce bad cholesterol. It has been observed that if drunkcold it lowers blood pressure while if drunk hot it increases it. Karkadè has no active stimulants and contains no caffeine. It is a very aromatic drink that appeals to children.
Preparation: Boil the required amount of water for a cup and let it cool briefly (about 80 ° C) before pouring on Karkadè. Let the flowers brew for about 8-10 minutes, no more, otherwise the mixture will have a bitter taste. Filter well and sweeten to taste with sugar or honey.
